Movement is Medicine

Foam Rolling of the hip area.

A lot of people talk about foam rolling as if its a magic pill that cures all.

Some believe it's a complete waste of time and another fad.

I think it's somewhere in the middle and has some advantages when used correctly such as:

  • Eases muscle pain and soreness, particularly DOMS.

  • Increase in range if motion (Temporary) Some studies have shown a greater increase in range of motion following foam rolling when compared to static stretching, this increase only lasts for a period of time.

Taking these points into account I would advise people to do foam rolling particularly before a bout of exercise.
